Well, I stopped by ORW on the way home today.
They told me the 5100's are for a lift.
So if I did not want a lift I needed to go to the standard yellow ones.
But looking at the post from SavageNFS, it looks like that would not be a lift for the rear, which is what I need to do.
I am still confused. I may stop by 4WheelParts tomorrow.

sounds like you spoke with someone whos not the sharpest tool in the shed. i remember looking up bilstein shocks (maybe bilstein website, dont remember) and i saw two different choices. one for stock height, one for lifted. but i think there is a way to use the stock height with a lift, but not sure exactly

You can use the stock shocks with spacers, but only up to a certain length.

They make 5100's in all kinds of lengths. The ones on my 2000 were for a 6.5" lift.

You never mentioned you were going to do any lift...
How much lift are you planning to do in the front? If the answer is 0" (no lift) to 2" of lift (a leveling kit) then the part number I linked to before is the correct part. If you are doing something beyond 2", let me know and I'll link you to the correct shock.

How much lift are you planning to do in the rear? From what I just reread, you are not planning a lift at all. You can use the 5100 series without lifts. Both the front and rear shock I linked to are for 0" of lift (the front ones can take up to a 2" lift as it says 0-2" of lift). Don't settle for the yellow ones...I'd encourage you to go for the 5100's. They are worth it!

I'm off to Scouts now, so it will be a few hours before I can get to it, but I'm happy to help.

I must have 0 lift.
My truck with shell on it only has 1 inch of clearance at the garage opening.
Any lift at all and I will have to park outside.
Looks like ORW may have mislead me on the 5100's.
I also talked to another front end specialist and he told me for an extra $100 per shock I can get some custom made shocks that I believe were called "Icons" and much improved over the 5100's. Have you heard of those?
Thanks for the help.

I have no experience with the Icon shocks.

The Bilstein part numbers and links I gave you will work on your 2012 F-350 with no lift according to the Bilstein vehicle applications page. When I installed the exact same part numbers on my truck, there were no changes to the ride height.

I just installed the 5100s and had the same concern about increasing ride height. Getting into my garage at work, I have 1.5" of clearance. It did not change the overall height at all. One thing to consider is that your height may increase more than usual when going over bumps. The old Rancho shocks simply collapsed with the springs when going over bumps and did not push back against the force. If you have a bump going into your garage, take it slow and allow for the "recoil" if you will. If you take it slow, any bounce should be while your hood is moving through the garage opening.

FWIW, I installed part #'s 24-186018 (front) and 24-186025 (rear).

I'm gonna be installing a ready lift 2.5 inch front and 3 inch rear lift n my f250 and was wanting to buy some 5100 billies to go with it for a nicer ride. I have taken the time to do a little research and have come up with some part numbers and wanted make sure they would suit my specific setup. Any help would be great, thanks. Here's the part numbers.

Front: 24-185776
Rear: 24-062466

do you mean 3" rear block (increase of 1") or the equivalent of 3" of lift? I ask because it will matter for your shock. I think you mean you are installing 3" block in the rear.

It looks like those part #'s should work for you.

It will be a 5 inch rear block replacing the stock 2 inch block so giving the truck 3 inch lift in the rear.

I went ahead and replaced my stock shocks with the Bilstein 5100's and I'm very happy with them. That said, someone posed a question yesterday that I couldn't really answer: as Sarge shows in his video, the Bilsteins expand from a compression much more rapidly than do the stock shocks - what does this mean in the real world? Does it equate to a rough, jarring ride with the stocks? Likewise, one would assume that with aftermarket shocks that expand rapidly the ride would be more "bouncy" - but that's certainly not what I'm experiencing.

Any enlightenment?

Thanks,

DD

The stock shocks are really hydraulic only. Not charged with high pressure even tho they claim to be. Thus they do not extend rapidly. They do their job mostly in compression

not sure if it may already have been done by someone, but if you are using the old hardware on the front shocks like sarge did in his video then I figured out a way to remove the nut from the top washer without a hammer and chisel. I dont have the best of tools so i had to improvise a little and come up with a way. I used a pitman arm puller, c-clamp, and a couple of small socket wrench bits. It came off real clean like this.

here's some pics:
