Missed Shift / Jerky going into 5th gear!!??

So today I experienced something very odd. While in "D", my truck totally missed 5th gear, and reved to about 2500 rpms, before I took the foot out of the throttle, it then shifted in, and was normal. Tranny fluid temp was 133 degrees at the time. I wondered if I could reproduce it, but could not, but I did reproduce a couple of slow shift, and one hard shift, while accelerating the same way. Basically I accelerated medium/hard to half way through 3rd gear, and then backed off the throttle. The truck tried to shift directly to 5th all three instances.

I had been experiencing some rough shifts into 2nd, but only when cold, and fairly tolerable...and now this. I'll be making an appoitment tommorow and I suppose they'll want to reflash it....

Anyone else with shifting issues into 5th....guess I should search the forum first..

Thanks.

Chris

Yep, give the forum a search.
My issue exist between 2nd and 3rd but I've read about owners with issues in 5th.
It's difficult to reproduce at will.
It happens after the second start of the day after a 3-5 hour soak.
My truck is a May 2010 build also.

Hmmm....mine was on the second start of the day, but I had just run into Walmart to grab some batteres. It's within a mile of the dealership, so I'm gonna try and do the exact same timing when I bring it in, and test drive it with them. Hoping the outside temp is the same, so things can be replicated at least.....

Hopefully it will mess up for you with a tech or service manager in the passenger seat.
(I understand the tech's are busy and they're not making money sitting in your truck.)
Most SM's are salary if they'll agree to ride with you.

I found shifting into 3rd gear manually ahead of time didn't seem to prevent the issue in [D] so it gives you more chances to replicate.

It's as if the computer has to fail in order to correct itself for a few days then must fail again (2nd start and only once) and repeat the learning process in a never ending loop.

Has been happening on mine since day 1 as well as irregular shifts, slamming knocking real hard into gear. Have had the valve body, solinoids replaced, torque convertor filter, and transmission pump replaced all to no fix. Ford has no idea how to fix it.
