OT: 81 Year Old Car Driven by a 101 Year Old Woman‏

Got this in an email from a friend. Thought it was cool to post.

I wish I live to be her age and look that well.

Here's the video:

Two Classics, One Car - Video Library - The New York Times

And here's the article (it does mention that Henry Ford was their neighbor):

I'm not even half her age and some days I'm not real sure I want to live that long. Sure hope my 53 is still going at 81 though

It's hard to believe she's 101! Very nimble for her age. Love that car, what craftsmanship! Every fitting and component looks like cost was no object.

No power steering on this 1930 Packard 740 Custom 8 (no power brakes either). First year Packard offered power steering (and power brakes) was in 1952.

1930 Packard's have a 4 speed non syncro transmission...a 101 year old woman doesn't have a problem driving it.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, grown men in this forum wanna add power steering to trucks that weigh less than half of what this Packard weighs.

Anyone else see the irony in this?

LOL!! Amen to both of you! But I have to agree with Ross, it is very hard for me to believe that she is 102. But I guess she is. Did you see her lean down and pick up that rag from the running board?

1940: Packard was the first vehicle to offer A/C.

1941: Packard was the first vehicle to offer power windows and seats.

1923: Packard were the first neon signs in the US, located at Earle C. Anthony Inc., the west coast Packard Distributor at 1000 S. Hope Street in Los Angeles.

Packard had more "firsts" in the auto industry in 57 years (1899/1956) than Ford has had in 109 years (1903/2012).

The death of Packard was a huge loss for American industry, especially the auto industry. When we had many manufacturers, we got innovation every year. When we had only the Big Three, we got vinyl tops, opera windows, & "road-hugging weight". Then the Japanese came...
