Future for the F250 beast

6.0's going to be a footnote in light diesel history I'm afraid. I plan on keeping mine as long as parts are available. Has anyone noticed Diesel World magazine's cover this month? 1,000hp Cummins, 1,200hp Duramax I think is what I saw. Cover photo is a late model Ford with 750hp smokin the tires. Makes you wonder how. Think we know why .
Correction: Diesel Power magazine. 1,800hp triple turbo 6.7 Cummins and 1,200hp 7.2 Duramax. The tire smoke is from a 700hp 6.4 Powerstroke "street" truck.

IMHO these Light duty Diesel Engines are a PITA and a Money Pit, they are great for the Mechanics and the Dealers, for pick up trucks, you cant beat gasoline, Diesels are great for over the road big rigs, but the little Poo Poo diesel Engines just dont hold up very well, Ok, I just Opened a Big Can Of Worms Take care and have fun, Chellie

Not really trying to get off topic but, all you need is $$$$$$ Cummins has the most bolt on after-market products in the industry. I also had a sit down discussion with a leader in the GM World one day, took a drive in his truck. If I buy a used 2003 Duramax and drop it off to him at his shop, 25K gives me a solid daily 500HP driver, 35K will be 750HP + to go sled pulling for a $200 purse if you place at most local events. Makes sense to me.
A 1,000 HP + sounds nice but the truck is not a daily driver, only a trailer queen or race track thriller. I'll keep my 6.0L and drive, for the return investment $$$ versus HP payback, you can't beat a Powerstroke and I have done that at the race track. If I get smoked, I just ask the owner what he has put into his truck then walk away smiling.
OK rant done....

There is a difference between pushing hard and acting the idiot. I push parts that people on here say that they are crap and should be removed ASAP. Still have the original factory parts. I'm pushing more then quite a lot of people on here.
Also, going by what you see on the forums as an indication of how bad a vehicle is isn't all that logical either. For the most part (at least 51% of the time) people are on here for questions, either with issues or what to learn more. I would say those with issue outnumber those that want to just learn(I was more of a learner myself) and so if your sample was just that of forum visitors it would already be slanted to a negative viewing. I would at least hope you are looking with the individual thread and not just taking a tally based on thread titles as it might show within the thread that the owner did something that they shouldn't have and it wasn't the truck's fault.
I need one of these healthy diesel v gas debates. I've been missing it some.

not to stand up for the gas motors because i have a 6.0 but this spring i sold my 1997 f150 with the 4.6 in it to get my truck now. that truck had just over 200,000 miles on it and i ran it hard. now i have buddies who have blown sparkplugs out of their triton motors too so there is no perfect motor. maintain it and hope for the best. as im typing this im waiting to pick up my 6.0 from the shop where i just spent over 4,000 dollars to stud it and new injectors and so forth but i still wouldnt go back to a gas truck

I would never go back to a gas motor myself, or to a Cummins.
My 6.0 tops them all.
The thing I hate the most is when people say "get a Cummins" I ask them why Thats the look I get, because they know nothing about the 6.0's I walk away a little
Then another thing that erks me when people say 6.0's blow...I then will ask them why....I get another because they know nothing about them....
People will trash talk anything they possibly can.
Its all about what you need it for and how you use it/maintain it....
6.0s going 300K+

There is a thread recently where the owner used his gas truck for rural paper delivery for several years and had over 435,000 miles (if memory serves) when he traded it in due to the rear going out. I believe it was still the original engine and transmission. I don't recall if it was an Expedition or an Excursion, V8 or a V10. It was a gasser though and I was impressed!

Forgive me Ford Father for I have Sinned..... I used to be on the Cummins forum... for a little while, I had the old Dodge D50 (AKA Mighty Max) and was looking at a full size truck and thought about getting a dodge. the 2+ Yrs I was on there, there was just as much complaints and "help me with this buddy" threads as we have here. and like them we have just as many ppl to lend a hand or some knowledge.
point is all trucks have their problems. look on FTE all of the sections have someone asking for help. to run a muck about the 6.0 and 6.0 only is like runnin around saying all dogs are mean and vicious because some chiuahua bit ya in the ****.
I am an no means saying my ***** dont stink, nor am I taking a ***** in this forum and rolling around in it for the sake of boredom.
if your bored and tired of re-runs of "greys anatomy" or "sex in the city" pick up a book do something constructive with yourself or spread around some of the "Diesel Mech" knowledge you attest to having in your sig, instead of coming on runnin a muck about "Poo Poo diesel engines" talk about Poo Poo diesel engines the 4 banger in my D50 was a poo poo diesel engine....
Sorry There Bubba 11 and the rest of yall that just got me hotter than to mice goin at it in a wool sock...
Bubba 11, the 6.0 is finicky. IMHO if the amount put into it exceeds the blue book value on it than I think its time to let her go. how much does the truck mean to you? what kind of shape is the rest of the truck in?
these are all things you would have to weight in to make that descission.

I bought my 05 F250 a lil over a year ago. Had 141,000 on it then. Has 152,000 now. Have peplaced crank sensor. IRP valve. Oil cooler. Head gaskets. ARP studs. Standpipes & plugs. Add Dieselsite coolant filter , MBRP 4" turbo back. Soon to add Amsoil oil by pass filter. I have spent, on top of my 450$ payment, about 3500 to 4000 on my truck. I have always been a chevy guy an I caught flak from my friends for buying a ford. But it funny when they ask my to pull their race cars to the dirt track for them. But I love my truck an plan on keeping it for ALONG time. Yes it cost more to keep it up an yes it has it's short comings. But no car or truck is perfect. An none will last forever without the need for repairs. The V10 may cost less to keep up an repair but I don't u can get the power out of it as cheaply as u can a diesel. I mean for around 600$ u can get 400 HP an over 700 TQ out of a 6.0L. I wood like to see a V10 post those kinda number for 600$. Just my .02 cents.

FWIW, I did that for under $250 with my truck. Found a used tuner for $170...tunes for $75...rocking a pretty wild truck that is bone stock in drivetrain but for the kitty delete

Tell them what you want, they can do almost anything...
Injectors and a turbo can really make a 6.0 happy too.
