The fenders on my 2001 F250 have finally started rusting through (part of the rust belt here in Peoria, IL). A body man told me that I may be surprised but finding beds like mine from salvage yards is not entirely uncommon. This was in Southern Illinois which barely has a rusty season. Has anyone with the same problem tried finding a salvaged bed? If so, how much $$? Also, if this is actually a viable option what kind of treatments are best to use on the new one in order to lengthen the bed life? Thanks.

 

I have had NO luck in Maine with short beds.

Found 2 used, both were as rotted as mine.

New/takeoffs go for around $2,000

So what about chopping out the rust and pulling the evil rust-enabling foam out of the fenders and finding some of those after market fender flares. I don't want one that is laced with fasteners on the outside. I would like ones that come the closest to looking like factory fenders. Any suggestions? Thanks.
