Best way to hook up jumper cables
Well tonight, had to jump off my mothers Ford Tauraus, of course at first all connected just like everyones been told, I used my alternate battery not my primary, since I could only get on one side. Hooked up the cables to her battery and mine. Let it stay like that for a few seconds, reved my 04 F350 while she started to crank. I was able to keep a eye on the cables since I don't know the full rating of the cables, while she started to crank I started to see sparking from my negative cable, I was gaoing to run over and un hook before any damage, but by the time I got over there her vehicle was running, so I completed the disconnecting of the cable. Once I saw her car was running fine, I turned my truck around so it would be in it's normal location.
Once I got the truck parked I ran the rpms to 1500 for about 5 minutes to make sure the truck was running fine, which it was running perfect. Well hopefully the little spark show didn't mess anything up.

The correct way to connect the cables is red to positive on good battery, then the other red to positive on dead battery. Next connect black to negative on good battery, then connect other black to a good ground on the engine of the dead battery vehicle. The alternator frame works, as do many other metal parts on the engine. Don't connect to a fuel line!
On your truck there is no alternate or primary battery. There is a left and right battery. There is no need to run 1500 RPM for 5 minutes after jumping unless you just need to use up some excess fuel.

Couldn't agree more. With 1500 to 1700 CCA (depending on which batteries you've got) and a 130 amp alternator...if you can't jump another car/SUV it ain't going to happen.
