Oil in air cleaner?

Well I had to do a little work on the carb today, nothing serious just high speed idle adjustment. But when I pulled the air cleaner it had a lot of oil in it. Guess I should say it's an 85 300/6 factory stock truck. Could the PVC be bad and allowing the carb to suck oil in from the valve cover breather? I can't figure out anything else that could be causing it, it has to be coming in from the valve cover breather. And when I started it without the air cleaner on it had no blowby coming out of the valve cover. So, what might be causing this?

pvc hose could be plugged up, manifold could be restricted, pvc valve could be plugged up, blow by in engine at higher rpms, egr could be plugged up or manifold plugged up or not working, eng crankcase vent filter plugged up or restricted, eng oil drain in the head could be plugged up or restricted, just a few things to look for, hope that helps, Chellie

Thanks Chellie. That gives me a few more things to check. The thing must be building up crankcase pressure to blow oil all the way up into the air cleaner.

How many miles does the eng have on it, another thing that could cause the problems are stuck piston rings or excessive eng wear, take a compression check on the eng, with all the spark plugs removed, and the throttle open, remove the coil wire if the cylinders are low on comp due to stuck rings, here is a old diesel mech trick that will lossen up stuck piston rings, and restore compression, mix/blend 50/50 aft and water untill it looks like pink pepto bismol pour about 4 to6 oz into each cyl, rotate the crank shaft by hand every once in a while, let the mixture sit in the cyl for at least 3 to 4 hours, turn crank by hand every once in a while, remove the ground battery strap, here is what is happening, the water will loosen/soften the carbon, the atf will lube and clean the rings, after about 4 hrs, spin the eng with the plugs out with the starter to get the oil water mixture out of the eng, take another comp test, i think you will be amazed at your new comp reading, I have brought up comp readings up to 100 PSI more than what they were before the treatment, also run 1 quart of ATF , just aft no water in your eng oil for about 1000 miles, that will clean out the inside of the eng, and change oil and filter after 1000 miles, I have done these things and they work great on my vehicles and others, the eng will smoke for a little while untill all the aft gets burnt out of the exhause manifold, dont be alarmed with the white smoke LOL Hope that helps, Chellie
