I put my ebrake on to the floor on the way home. 40 mph and it didn't even slow down! Real useful....

Driveline brakes. The rockwells my brother has have them installed. They're sweet.

I was driving down the road the other day and there was an awful burning smell. My friend goes "is youre parking brake on?" I laughed and said "No I just checked."

It doesnt do much.. Wheel Chock. Problem solved.

Yeah! As many parts as ford wastes on the "extra drum" e-brake system they could save money, parts, and weight plus have a better system with the single brake on the driveline.

I swear the engineers don't think things threw very much OR the people above the engineers limit their options to much.

It's the 2nd one - too many of my ideas have been "overridden" by management or the bean counters. If us engineers were left to our own devices there'd be a lot of really cool stuff out there but nobody could afford to buy it!

I can't imagine many other ebrake options costing more then a whole designated drum brake system just for the e-brake.

The obs superduty cab and chassis has the driveline drum brake. We have two and they work awesome! I don't think you could drive with em set. Also a word of advice I always mash the e brake down pretty hard so there is no mistaking it being on!

The one bad thing about mashing it down is the cable stretches. Mine has so much slack now that the cable doesn't move till the pedal is at least half way to the floor.

So true.

Good to know that there are others with useless parking brakes. I thought when I bought my truck someone already glazed over the pads by driving around with the e-brake set.

mine is the same way, suck bad. I actually snapped the cable trying to push the pedal hard enough to get it to hold the truck. Replaced the cable and complete assembly with new stock parts and it still wont hold the truck on even the slightest incline.

This has got me to thinking (yeah I know that's a bad thing) wonder if parts from the chassis cab could be adapted to fit a 250/350?

Anybody got info or a diag on the chassis cab setup?
I've seen a few F450/550's around here but I've never had one in our shop to look over.

I dont have a diagram but I have seen them in person a few times on the older body style ford superdutys aka 87-97 f450-f550, they had 4x4 transmissions but instead of a transfer case they had the drum in its place

wonder if that setup could be fabbed to work on our new trucks

I need to study my t-case a little closer it sounds. The 450/550 are also avail w 4x4 so the e-brake on those would have to bolt up to the t-case. Our local phone co has 4x4 F450's that are 2002-2003's. Wish I could get a look underneath one of those.

I would be happy with a simple cog gear and a solenoid activated pin for a parking brake.
