Here's an old post which will help to clarify what you're seeing.
I have stolen that and inserted it in my post at the top for future reference

Interesting night! Earlier I posted that I put it on trans temp and my gauge on the dash started moving at 50f, at 60ish degrees is was at the middle (top of the little gear marking). Well I tried it twice more tonight, first time leaving to go eat with the family. Gauge on the dash was at the bottom, digi said 68f, when the gauge came up to the middle and showed top of the gear again the digi said high 70's. After coming out of the restaurant the gauge was once again at the bottom and the digi said 81f, when the gauge met the top of the gear the digi said 91. So it is my belief now the gauge on the dash is just hooked to a timer...

few clarification points:
the temps reported by the computer about the trans gauge are NOT ACCURATE for reading actual temps, all it is good for is knowing that between value X and value Y the temp is normal, between say, 100 and 200. below X is unknown territorry. above Y as well.
the "Gauge" on the dash is also not really a gauge. it simply goes to the middle if everything is OK.
if the value is below or above, then the needle goes to one side or another.
same thing with the oil temp, oil pressure, and sometimes even tachometers found on 99% of production dashboards.
its not uncommon to see a 2-300 rpm difference between the factory tach and an aftermarket tach in some cars.
as for this thread, sure, its cool to see the numbers reported on the ODO, but i wouldnt put any faith in the numbers, just like i dont put any faith in the gauges.
factory gauges are basically dummy lights that only tell you when something isnt normal.
why do you think there are no numbers on the trans gauge.
