Thanks man, I restored the Scotty a couple years ago and haven't even had time to take it out yet. It serves as my kids play house in my shop now.

That picture is extra sweet. I restored a 73 22' Great Divide travel trailer (built local in Colorado and was very popular back in the 70's) that was in great original shape, down to the original linoleum. Tons of elbow grease and sweat but it was sweet when done. I never took it out once, In a moment of weakness, I gave it to one of my brother in laws and should have never done that. He doesn't really appreciate it. I now have a 79 Mitchell 11' cabover camper, totally mint, that will sit on the 74 F350 SCS this summer. It's big and heavy and it too was built locally and extremely popular. My son and I's plan is to show this summer as a rig at some local car shows. People love stuff from the 70's, especially when original.

That's cool, I wouldn't mind having a slide-in for my SCS. I bought the Scotty to pull behind my '60 F-100 to Bonneville for speed week but I haven't gotten around to finishing the truck.

That would be a sweet looking vintage outfit. People would love to see that at a car show!

Not much progress to show but I did get to try out its hauling capabilities last week. I used the truck to haul some mulch. The saw mill has a $40 minimum amount they will sell and the guy operating the loader warned me that it was way too much weight to haul in the back of a truck. I decided to go ahead an try it since I only had about 10 miles to go with the mulch. The truck handles the load great and the loader operator said he had never seen a truck handle a load like that. Here is a before and after pic to show how much it squatted.

And yes, I bought WAY too much mulch. This is what I had left over.

So it looks like it dropped about an inch and a half? I wonder how much weight that was (meaning the mulch)? What did you end up doing with all that extra mulch?

I'm not sure how much it weighed but there was a 78 F-150 super cab long bed that they were shoveling mulch out of when I got there because the rear bumper was almost on the ground. I left the truck over at my dads house so he can mulch his flower beds and I have a couple of people in line to take what he has left. I never thought $40 would buy that much mulch.

Sweet ride. I also own a 74 SCS but with a 360/c6 that I want to pull and replace with a 390 that I make from the 360. It's my summer task. Will try and post photos. I think I will try the paint recovery that you pulled off. Mine is also original paint but mine in single color lime instead of two tone.

Would be interested in any pointers you have from the engine pull. I would prefer to leave the radiator support in place as you did and not pull it. Any lessons learned that you got from that task would be greatly appreciated. The I will hit you up on the exhaust because I thought you couldn't run headers with the mid ship tank and sway bar on the SCS. I seems too tight to get exhaust past the mid tank on the driver side. And I am not crazy with the idea to cut the crossmember as another poster noted. Can that be avoided?

Creat job bringing another of these rare beasts back to life!

The engine can be removed without pulling the core support. I removed the engine and left the trans in the truck. I'm not sure if the engine and trans will come out together though. I did have to let some air out of the front tires when I pulled the engine. The biggest problem I ran into was getting everything to line back up when installing the engine. Since the torque converter has studs on it, you have to line them up with the flexplate before the engine will go back enough for the motor mount studs will drop in. I would suggest either having someone help rotate the torque converter to align the studs when dropping the engine or moving the trans back a few inches until the engine is mounted and then bolt the trans up.

As far as exhaust goes, everywhere I read said the headers wouldn't clear the sway bar but I had no problems at all. I did have to remove the sway bar to install the headers but it bolted back up with no problems.

Oh man, these trucks are WAY too easy to take the whole front clip off of. It takes a half hour to pull both fenders, the hood, and the core support. (hood is one piece, the rest is another) Why would you want to keep all that in your way? To me, it's worth it not to have to lean over to get at bolts and wires.

I looked closely at your exhaust. Not clear to me how/if you ran both header pipes all the way back before splitting and exiting behind the rear tires. It appears to be awfully tight between the mid ship gas tank and the drivesaft. Did you run the driver side pipe all the way back along mid ship tank on the driver side or cross it over further forward to the pass. side before the tank?

Thanks for your input. I am about to begin the journey to uncharted waters (for me)!

You can see in the pics below that the driver's side pipe crosses over just before the front tank then crosses back over just before the axle.

Got it. Understand now. Much clearer. Thanks so much. I'm not at the exhaust stage yet but I now see/know how you did it. Looks like a great job of fabbing it up too. I played the video you imbedded in one post and I like the sound. Growls but isn't real loud from what I can tell.

What size tubing is it running back?

I thought the Magnaflow mufflers were a little loud on acceleration at first but I've gotten used to them now. The pipes are 2 1/2" from the headers back.

Well, I've decided I'm ready to move on to something else so I'm putting 'Ol Running Bear up for sale. If any of you guys have and suggestions on places to advertise it, they would be appreciated.
