Power Steering Comes Back To Life!!!

For the last two years the power steering worked as long as the truck was cold but when it heated up there was almost no power steering. There was a whine in the pump and I thought it was getting ready to give up. The water pump went out this week and while I had everything apart I put in a new Motorcraft drive belt which had at least 145,000 miles on it. The belt showed very little ware and I almost left it on. After getting everything back together the power steering worked great even after the truck warmed up. I guess the old belt stretched out after it warmed up. If you have power steering problems and have a lot of miles on your belt it might be worth while to try a new belt first. HTH!!!

Flush the PS if you haven't already...put in synthetic ATF. Your PS pump will love you, again .

Done the flush twice, did wonders for the brakes but not much for the power steering. Thanks for the response.

I experienced significant positive changes when flushing the PS and putting new ATF in.... However I was previously running PS fluid. Found out the hard way you are supposed to run ATF . Live and you learn I guess
