i found a truck that i might want to buy. it is a 1999 F250 5.4, auto, 4x4, ex-cab. it has 93,000 miles on it. it has a snow plow, small sander, tool boxes and a ladder rack. my questions are: first off should i be worried about the milage on it? how do these trucks hold up to plowing? anything serious to look out for? any help would be great.
As long as the previous ower took good care of it, and changed the oil often, then there is nothing to worry about. Fords motors are pretty much bullet-proof. However, that being said, I personally would not touch a Super Duty with anything other than a V10 or a Diesel. To me, the V10 doesn't even have enough power. As for things to look for, check the front suspension and the front of the frame. If it was abused, then the frame could be cracked, or the suspension will be shot. Then, you will be looking at some serious money to fix that.
V10 said just about everything. I would also check to see if there has been any repairs done to the truck. Look at the frame on both ends to make sure that it hasn't been straightened. I have seen several that looked like good deals but when you got to checking closer you would find fenders not aligned properly. frames bent or had some real shoddy workmanship done by a local yokal that didn't have a clue.
I also agree that a SD should have the V10 or 7.3. After all to me thats what makes a Superduty. But each to thier own. Thats why we are in the Gulf again.
thanks for the help. the price is $16995, good? bad? i won't be doing much towing/ hauling if any. but i would need more support for the 5.4 to look into it more. so 93,000 miles really isn't a worry for these engines?
