Good morning Indiana and all of our IN friends!
Man what a spell of awesome weather out here in the mid-west!
Although it looks like it will end come tomorrow...that means I better go get the last of my shoe molding today while it isn't raining and get it stained and sealed!
I've still got that last room to finish upstairs...and that one will be a challenge due to all the wood stored in that room to work around...looks like I'll be fingerprinting those boxes at least one more time!...lol
Have a great day everyone.
Talk to you later.
Joe.

Good morning Indiana and all of our IN friends!
Welcome to HUMP day!!!
Chris...Where they sending you???
Well yesterday I decided to swap out the trans on my self propel lawn mower...this should have been an easy ~1 hour task...but NOOOOOO...I started on the left side of the mower disassembling the wheel and gears, etc...got that all freed up...then I move to the right side and get the spring clip off and "try" to pull the gear off the shaft...NO LUCK...So...I use a punch to try and knock the shaft off the gear...NO LUCK...now what?...I can't get the assembly off the mower without removal of this gear...so...I disassemble the old trans and pull it all apart...thankfully I am able to slide (with persuasion from a BF hammer) all the gears OFF the shaft and get the assembly off the mower...now to the vise...I secure the gear and use that BFH again...all to no avail...
I am able to move the gear back on the shaft but only move the gear off the shaft about 1/16"...what's going on.
I hit the assembly with some PB blaster and let it sit...still nothing moving...
So off to my neighbor to see if he has a press I can use...he doesn't but has a gear puller...so we afix everything up and start cranking...still NO LUCK!!!
Man...this thing is on there...
So now I'm resigned I'm buying a new drive gear...no big deal but I wanted to get this wrapped up tonight...
Finally I whack the gear back on the shaft and it goes pretty far...maybe 1/8"...I'm able to see there is a very small burr on the end of the shaft...so I get my files out and file around the perimeter of the shaft and bevel it down...get that BFH out again and whack away...and off it pops!!!
That gear cost me maybe an extra 45 to 60 minutes fighting with it...oh well...
So I get the new trans installed and put the drive gear on the end of the shaft and get it all buttoned up...oh yeah...I put a new drive belt on as well while I was here...
Fire up the mower and everything works like it used to!
I bought the trans and belt off ebay for $60 shipped to my house...Sears wanted ~$85 plus tax for the trans and $15 for the belt...
I figured for $60 and a small headache with the gear...it sure beat spending $300 on a new mower...granted this mower is 15 years old but she still runs good and does what I need her to do...
In the end...it all worked out...now I don't have to "push" a self propelled mower this weekend!...
Have a great day everyone.
Joe.
