The other day I was driving about maybe 50mph over a construction area where the pavement is really deteriorating. My truck hit potholes like 1 every 3-5' it seemed like. My truck wanted to completely spin out of control. It felt like my front end was at 80-85 degrees (if I was heading 90 degrees, North if you will.) I was able to keep control of the truck, fortunately. Had I hit the brakes Im sure I would have lost complete control. Has any one had this issue before? Is there a way to fix it? I know my shocks are stock and I'm about 95k on the mileage but, they don't need to be replaced according to the "push down on bumper" test.

 

Stock shocks are marginal to begin with, and at 95k, need to be replaced. My '98 Exploder didn't bounce, but the shocks were really bad. A new set made a big difference. (Monroe Reflex)

Monroe Reflex or Sensa-Trac are good.

KYB's are better.
Bilsteins might be an option also.

You can find reviews on line, and each maker will tell you what they made the shock for etc. For example, the Reflex is a stiffer shock made for rougher running than the Sensa-Trac.

I replaced my original shocks at 75k. There were no visible leaks but once off the truck they were obviously dead. New shocks and lowering the psi in my tires made a huge difference in ride quality.
