1994 Ford Bronco - need new tranny
i'm the original owner of a 1994 Bronco XLT.
~163,000 miles.
was driving around yesterday and my transmission went out completely. Car wouldn't go into drive.
bottom line, i need a new transmission.
what should i do, the estimate was steep, more/equal to the value of the truck. I'm in Atlanta area, any ideas on what i should do?
the estimate is got for a full jasper tranny was $2900 with a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty.

Really depends on your future plans for the Bronco. If planning on keeping it, get a new one with the warranty. If planning on selling.....you might want to consider a used replacement. You would not get much selling it as is but it would be out of your way.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.........

Assuming you have an E4OD: Many times it turns out to be an electronic problem with the issue you describe. The MLPS is notorious for causing very weird issues. Before tossing in the towel run the KOEO tests and check for CM codes. If nothing shows up I would still suggest checking that MLPS.
Manual Lever Position Sensor = MLPS.

Trucks front end was shaking like crazy. Seemed to be a balancing issue, front 2 tires were worn like crazy on the inner tread. Got 2 new tires, drove off the lot, and truck still was shaking/vibrating a lot. Started to hear strange clunking sounds from the front. Decided I needed to take it immediately to a mechanic (got the tires front a tire shop ). Truck died at a light. Engine running fine. Truck was in drive and would not move forward. Reverse was just fine .
It's still sitting at the mechanic. Not sure what to do. Don't want to get rid of her for scrap parts. Great body, no dents, paint is great. Interior is great also. Leather looks great, the armrest is torn. Also have a soft top!
Sorry, I misspoke earlier, it went into drive, just wouldn't move.
About a year ago, I had the problem where the truck wouldn't go into drive, the fuse kept blowing. Turned out it was a recall related to the cruise control.

well the front tires sounds like you have worn ball joints and tierods that are causing vibration/shaking and worn tires. an Alignment and such is necessary there.
as for the tranny is it at a tranny shop or just a regular mechanic? has the mechanic pulled codes to see what the tranny is doing? as it been serviced yet to see if that helps.

the truck was at a general repair shop. doesn't specialize in transmissions, but does a lot of them.
i have the truck at my house again. it will drive in low.
I guess i need to get a transmission specialist to look at it. I can't imagine its anything else but the transmission is shot. the fellow who dropped it off from the tow truck said, to check the modulator valve. no clue what that it.
