Trading in my 04 f-150 with the 5.4 to a 09 f-150 with the 4.6 3v it's mostly gonna be driven by my wife to and from work and I do go on trips back home which is about 200 miles round trip. Is there going to be a big difference in the mpg? Also is there anything I'll have to look for in the 4.6?

 

The 4.6 should get a few miles per gallon better but it also depends on the gearing. I don't know what your two trucks have. Everything you looked for in the 5.4 will be the same as the 4.6. I have both motors and really like them. My 04 E250 4.6 cargo van has 200K on it and it runs like a dream and I've seen 17 on the highway. My 00 Expy 5.4 has 195K and is equally great. I plan on keeping them. Change the plugs at 90K and oil at 5k. Normal maintenance and make sure to flush tranny according to book. On each I have only replaced the plugs twice, fuel filters, alternator and a few cops on the Expy. I am very pleased with the service of these vehicles.

 

Thanks, I haven't had a problem with my 5.4 granted I only owned this 5.4 for 2 years. Is there any concerns I need to be aware of with the 4.6?
