Thought I should update this thread as well in case anyone finds it doing a search. I appears all this was caused by a bad u-joint as detailed in the thread linked to below...

As I said earlier though, everything replaced did need replaced except maybe the rear brake rotors, so no harm done. Just would have been nice to figure it out faster. I'm sure I would have if I put more than a few thousand miles a year on my truck. Although since getting it repaired I've been putting quite a few miles on it since it is now much more fun to drive with everything working properly.

check your u-joints and carrier bearing. i had the same shuddering took it to ford for a diagnostic found out it was 3 bad u-joints and and the carrier bearing. ford wanted about $750, took off the shaft sent it in to my local driveshaft shop for about $200. they used same if not better spicer u-joints. my truck shuddered between 28-40 mph. good luck!

If you are asking me, then no I have not checked front brakes. They were just redone by me last summer when i did balljoints and a wheel bearing. I just did a pad slap on the rear tonight along with greasing the pins and the squeak in the rear is still there. I thought it was the pads, but since the calipers seemed free and the pins are definitely free and lubed I'm suspecting the Ujoints. Plus, when the truck was just sitting on jackstands, no wheels/tires in the rear you could feel the vibration (ah yeah) letting the truck just spin the driveshaft at idle speed. Eliminated out of balance tire, and rear brakes in my opinion. Truck doesn't pull at all when braking so I'm not suspecting a hanging front caliper.
On the plus side, while I was under the truck I finally got around to replacing my blown out front swaybar endlinks with the MOOG balljoint style. SOOO nice to not have the front end sound like it's self destructing over every tiny bump!

figured I'd update with my fix even thought it's been a long time ago. Had 2 ujoints bad. Had new ones put in, the factory driveshaft "dampner" removed and the whole assembly balanced. No more shudder. Now to get the rest of the small issues done... looking at ordering @$1K worth of stuff in the near future for a spring repair/upgrade party!
