I have a 2001 F150 and I think the window motor is bad. I took the door skin off and tried to get the motor out. Well ford though it would be cool if they pop-rivited the peice the motor is connect to. So I need some advice on the best way to get the motor out to check it............Chris

Ford has been doing that since, uh. forever Well at least 20 years.

Drill them out and replace with bolts and nuts.

 

That is what I was think of doing. I wasn't sure if that was wise or not. Can I post a trouble shooting problem to you?Thanks so much for the reply.........Chris

 

This is what the manual says. You dont have to remove the window regulator which is held on by the rivets.



Raise the front door window glass to the full up position.

Remove the front door trim panel.

Position the watershield aside.
CAUTION: Make sure the electrical connector is positioned aside before drilling.

To access the power window motor bolts, use a 19 mm (3/4-in) hole saw with a 8 mm (1/4-in) pilot to drill three holes at the existing drill dimples on the door.

Disconnect the front door window regulator electrical connector.

Remove the bolts and the front door window regulator motor.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Cycle the window glass to make sure the gears engage.

 

I was wondering how do you remove the door panels? I am going to replace the speakers in my 99 f150 excab.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the front door trim moulding. (vertical piece at back of door..it just pulls off)

Remove the inside door handle finish panel. (again it just pulls off...there is a little notch to put a screwdriver in to carefully pry it off)

If equipped, remove the window regulator switch plate (just pulls off too)..........
Lift the front of the window regulator switch plate.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.

If equipped, remove the window regulator handle (23342)......
Separate the handle cover from the handle.
Remove the screw.
Remove the window regulator handle.
Remove the spacer.

CAUTION: Do not pull directly outward on the front door trim panel, as damage may occur.

Remove the screws. (one at back top of the panel and one in behind the door handle)
Lift and remove the front door trim panel.

If equipped, twist the courtesy lamp bulb socket one quarter turn and remove the socket from the front door trim panel.

 

Thanks Racerguy, you saved me from some damage. I figured that they would pull right off like my 89 f150, but they pull up instead.

I've seen a few panels broken because people assumed they pulled straight off. Good old Ford likes to keep us on our toes with things like that.

 

racerguy, in particular your posts are really helpful and obviously come from someone who knows what they are doing. (thinking now of the postings about emissions controls, engine driveability problems, what buck000 mentions,etc). thanks for the help.

Ok,ok, we dont have sturgeons here but we do have lots of salmon.
