ok came across this page to realize i am not spending that much for that kit. but am curious anyone buy this or know how big the cooler and pipes are? id assume its smaller than a 7.3 stock cooler? and maybe around 2.5 inch pipes? think they would do a group buy at discounted price?
if nothing else im planing on finding a 7.3 intercooler and bend some exhaust for the pipes but i am kinda at a lost on how to retain the factor air box, can i turn the intake hat or does it need to be replaced or maybe would re clocking the turbo help?
I don't have a clue how to retain it. Since my IDI's are all non turbo(factory) and the DI's I converted to 6637 That is what I was planning. Our '87 has the Banks set up.
You wouldnt want to go too big, what are you running for boots right now, they arent really effective until you get into 12psi+. the intercooler shouldnt be too big because it will cause too much turbo lag. The kit should bolt right in, stock airbox and all, it even looks like it has a different wastegate actuator, weither or not its tuned differently I have no idea. Your best bet is to give them a call they are very good about answering questions.
I just inter-cooled my truck and the turbo lag isn't bad at all. My truck is more powerful at 5-7psi of cold air then 10-12psi of hot air. More throttle response and higher rmp's were instant, and I haven't even touched the fuel yet. It certainly makes a big difference before you hit 12psi. Don't mean to get on ya 84 but that just aint the truth.
Well there you have it, I had just been told they aren't effficent at the boost, but you have proven them wrong. No offence taken snap, the best advice is indeed first hand.
ya im runining about 12 empty and have not touched the fuel yet. so i think turning the intake hat will help but anyone have first hand experience with how the ats/ford turbo fits in the intake hat?

I completely understand and I didn't mean to call you out. I thought the same thing before I hooked mine up, then I felt the power.

The way it is set up you shouldnt need to modify anything, you can see it comes with the new snail and I'm betting the pipes are bent to accommidate the intake hat.
I am running a huge intercooler. It is even 4" thick. As far as my setup goes, I haven't noticed any lag either and it has added some power for me also. My truck feels pretty quick.
