I picked up some freeze plugs for the 6.9 and all my parts plus guys had were the cup style. As yall know the plugs in our engines are flat. My question is will these be ok. I put one in to try but due to the seat at the bottom of the bore I had to install it cup side in. I did dress it with High Tack first but Im not really happy with how it fit. anyone used these? Should I go in search of the OEMs or just not sweat the petty things?
SEALED POWER Part # 3818056 Stainless steel expansion plugs
Thru Rock Auto, $31.79
Looks like they are the flat ones.
For my two cents, I would buy the flat ones, OEM style, but, that's just me. RockAuto Parts Catalog
Summit parts has them in brass too, if I am reading it right. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SLP-381-8056/
The last person I know of that used the cup style ended up burning up his engine because it blew out. I'd get the correct ones. Also there is a tool to install them correctly, to the right depth and square.
Thanks I was looking for that sort of info. The cups did not seem to fit up right also noted on rock auto the quoted the dimension at 1&17/32" thats a 1/6 over the 1&1/2" I bought. 1&7/32 v/s 1&38"

And when your relying on something to hold by an interference fit, a 1/32" is alot.
