Wheel Option

I recently purchased a 1955 F100 and understand the wheels are 5X5.5 bolt pattern. I was wondering if anybody knew of a more modern wheel from another vehicle which would use this pattern as I am having a hard time finding them.

All F-100s and F-150s up to 1996 have the same pattern, many with similar offset and backspacing as your stock steel wheels. Plenty of choices I'd think. Stu

I'm going to run stock steel 16" wheels with trim rings and hub caps on my 51 F1,

here are some Forg Mag Slot wheels that would fit too.
I took them on trade and don't know exactly why/ going to sell them I guess.

Last year for F100's = 1983, and...

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle wheels, some have 5 lug 4.50" bolt circle wheels...as it depended on whether optional power brakes were installed.

Ridiculous! Why did Ford bother? And...if you have 4.50" wheels, the rear drum brakes are 10" x 2 1/2" / All other 1968/83 F100's, 1975/96 F150's have 11" x 2 1/4" rear drum brakes.

F150's went to metric wheels in 1997, but Econolines did not. All 1975/2011 E150's have 5 lug, 5.50" bolt circle wheels.

Same 5 lug and 5.50" bolt circle as used on 1975/96 F150's, some 1980/83 F100's, 1953/79 F100's, 1948/52 F1's, 1932/47 "Commercials."

Styled Steel and Styled Aluminum wheels introduced in 1977 E150's, F100/150's. Bronco's used the same wheels beginning in 1978.

The center cap (Ford called it an ornament) attaches to the wheels with 3 expanding anchors and 3 screws.

3 anchors press into the wheels (the 3 holes are within the bolt circle), then the screws thread into the anchors.

Steel wheels used steel anchors, aluminum wheels used nylon anchors. Both plastic chrome and black plastic caps were used, as well as chrome and black screws.

If removing the caps, then re-installing them, do not use the anchors more than twice...cuz if you do, when rounding a corner, the caps and screws fly off! Sold a lotta caps/screws back then, mainly for this reason.

I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible... The PO in my case replaced the 16" split rim with 15" "outtie" nub - those, 15" outtie nub, are a dime a dozen, go to the junkyard and look at almost any truck for em (mark 8, grand marque and crown vic as well). Trying to get 16" and innie nub I struck out everywhere till I found Coker tire. Coker sells a brand "specialty wheel" that is a wider (they do sell a 4.5", but good luck finding tires for that) but otherwise looks right, they take beauty rings and moons even.

I run a set of original 16 inch wheels with a 4.5" bead width. Bought a set of Cooper LT 205/75/16's last summer from the local tire store. They do very well. No problems so far.

EDIT: I was wrong with the size. The tires are actually LT 215/85/16's. NOT 205/75/16's like I mentioned in this post. Apologies!!

Mind naming names what's the store - I did look both locally and online (tires.com and tire-rack)... no love at all for 205 here in Denver... Just repeated the online search and still no love.

I do remind myself 80% of the US populace is in the eastern and central time zone, we mountain time zone folks are like red headed ******* step children...

Oh crap. Apologies! I told you wrong. My truck (the one in the avatar) has Cooper Discoverer H/T tires size LT215/85/16. They are mounted on four original 16 inch rims with the narrow 4 1/2" bead width. They look good and they do very well. I'm quite satisfied. Again, apologies. I told you the wrong size earlier. I'm gonna edit that post above. I bought them at a local Ma and Pa Western Auto store.
