Will a 1976 chevy flatbed fit my truck?
Hello,
I was wondering if a flatbed off a 1976 chevy will fit my 1986 Ford F250 long bed with duel tanks.
I just want to make sure it will becuase i have a bad history of buying stuff that doesn't work.lol

If both trucks were cab and chassis trucks from the factory, most likely yes you can swap. The cab and chassis trucks have standard frame dimensions from one brand to another, so all the aftermarket bodies will fit for contractors and other commercial business uses.
If either one is a pickup, then no it probably won't fit without modification. A pickup without it's factory bed is different than a cab and chassis truck from the factory.

The Cab/Chassis truck's frame rails are closer together than the pickup's frame rails. If you are not aware of the bed's donor (chevy) model then you will have to do some measuring of the flatbed width mounts vs. your truck's frame rails. Either way i believe you will have to some modification due to the chevy frame possibly having slight curve variations vs. the Ford frame.

The simple answer is .... MEASURE the bed and Measure your frame. The cab-n-chassis have a 34" wide frame rails. Ford pickups have 36" wide frame rails

I'm considering doing a fab flat bed on my 84 and doing the deck in some hard wood or iron wood. But don't know what thickness of metal or how to position all the parts. Got any suggestions?

OK, first question what are you planning on hauling ? And I myself prefer an all metal bed made of heavy channel iron with 1/16 in diamond plate aluminum, however if you what heavy duty bed then I'd use treated oak 2x6 fitted in angle iron , just as if you were fabricating your own trailer . You may also want to gap it at a 1/4 in.
