Here's the intercooler. We had to enlarge the rectangular holes on either side of the radiator support to get the plumbing to fit. The intercooler says it's rated up to 500HP, but it's probably a bit small if my friend were to tow long grades.

Here's a shot of the wastegate. It has a screamer pipe on it, but you really can't hear it over the post-turbo exhaust anyways.

It has Deka 80 lb/hr injectors now. Still trying to get the tune dialed in.

It will spin the tires on the 1-2 shift with 31" Tires and 3.55 Gears!

I'll try and get a video this weekend, but not making any promises!

It's a 7.3 Power Stroke Van Turbo. They have the larger exhaust housing which is more favorable for gasoline engines.

Yeeee-Hawww. Looks like a little over 5 second 0-60 without brake-torquing it. I'd imagine it'd be even faster with a good boost launch. Not bad for a 4x4 Crew Cab truck

I'm love to see a full build thread. This kind of information is essentual to our hobby. I'm very interested in how you got the obd2 maf setup working. It would be nice to see a build thread starting with the maf setup then get into the turbo setup. Looking sweet though.

The MAF swap has been covered. It's a simple repin of the harness and adding some additional wire. Here is a mag write-up I've found to help. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...AirConversion/

This truck is NOT OBD-2.. it's still ECC-IV/OBD-1.

This is the tuning software:
QuarterHorse for Fords [QH1] - $249.00 : Moates.Net

Your basically using any ECU from a '89-'95 Mustang. These are the factory MAF car's.

We used a '95 F-150 5.0 California computer. It was necessary to control the E4OD Automatic.

But yes, it still OBD-1.

Sweet, thanks for clearing that up and the link. I was thinking odb2 would have been used on later 90s MAF models.

I think for the most part, 96 F-150s had the later EEC-V with OBD-II. I've heard of 97 California OBD-II MAF 460 though.

So dumb question. With the larger MAF that a 5.0 would have say from a 2nd gen lightning, is it just a matter of using the quarterhorse tuning software to compensate for the larger MAF?

Ive actually read that FM article before I just didnt know what mods needed to go into the 460 vs using a 302. Do you put in the cubic inch and it can then calculate volume needed for the MAF and compensate for the larger one, or is there a specific parameter you put in the software for the MAF?

EDIT: Also, whats the computer code for that '95 california computer with an E4OD?

There is something called a MAF Transfer curve that correlates the MAF voltage with an air flow. You simply have to update it for the new MAF.

Values you need to change on a 5.0 Computer to run a 460 reasonably well:

Injector Size
Injector Breakpoint
Injector slopes and offsets
Displacement
Injector Firing Order
Cranking fuel
MAF Transfer

Setting those values correctly should get you drivable for the most part.

Computers you can use are: WAY1, VEX1, HOG0, HOG1, U4X0

That answers it! Thank you. I wonder how "skilled" of a tuner you would need to be, I would love to do this along with along with some "bolts-ons" but man that turbo is going to run.

That's how I got started with tuning. I was paranoid when I first started tuning.
Start slow. Get a good wide band a/f gauge. I suggest the lc-1 from innovate. It's compact and can use your laptop for a gauge til you find a plx gauge (I prefer this combo) but you can get a combo kit now with a digital gauge and lc1 for 200$. Or spend more money and get a zeitronix setup and then you can have more inputs, like the lm-1 from innovate. I don't prefer the lm1 because it's bulky.

Anyway. Start out slow. Watch the a/f gauge. Drive easy. Listen for knock, or detonation. Tweak it from baseline. Have a friend drive your truck while you tune. Make sure you do as many driving conditions as possible. Up hill easy, aggressive. Deceleration, and cruising, as well as aggressive and easy roll on throttle.
Drive drive and drive. Tweak it a little at a time.

Ask questions. Lots of knowledge around here. I always like to toss ideas around in here.
