I have a question regarding the axle lengths on the 9 inch rearends:

Some differentials have different right and left axle lengths for the same housing. I have a third member and housing from a '72 Ford truck but both axles are the same length. Are all the third members the same but may have different housings?

Third members are the same, just the housings differ.

EXCEPT there are spline differences--28 vs. 31.

AND there is a 9 3/8 variant that does not interchange without grinding the housing. Parts for that do not interchange with the regular 9.
