fuel level 2011 f250 crewcab deisel swb

i bought a new f250 crewcab 6.7 powerstroke swb two weeks ago.. it supposidly has a 26 gallon tank. i ran tank down to 16 miles to empty and trip meter said i only used 21;6 gallons. i filled tank up but it would only except 22.4 gallons. we made a trip to branson, mo. so i actually fill truck up 6 times. i let the miles to empty go below 25 each time. i never put more than 22.5 gallons each fill up. ford service said they could find nothing wrong with my computer or guages. im at a loss.

I have never put more than 22 gal in mine and that was at 35 MTE. I think we have alot of fuel leftover at this point but I am not willing to chance it. The MTE calculation seems to be a very cautious estimate

I agree..the most I've been able to put in is 21.3 gallons. More commonly, under 20 gallons.

I run mine down to single digits pretty regular.

On a 26 gal tank, you can assume 1/2 gal in the bottom of the tank, and at least 2 gal in the lines and filters. Probably more.

I forgot, do we have the fuel cooler too or is that just the 6.4?

i ran my truck today down to 10 miles below empty. my gas usage showed i used 23.2 gallons. when i filled the tank the pump showed i used 24.1 gallons of diesel. i believe at least on my truck using the gas usage on the trip meter is more dependable than the miles to empty. on this tank of deisel i im going to monitor gas usage and when it reaches 24 gallons(If i dont run out of deisel before) it should take 25 gallons to fill the tank. ill let you know the outcome

Just about exactly my findings. I also prefer using the gals used in the trip meter. It seems as if each line on the fuel gauge is about 6 gals worth of fuel, so when the needle shows around 1/8th of a tank it will take around 21- 22 gals to fill it up. I don't know where the other 4 gals are. In my old truck with a 26 gal tank I could always overfill it by 2-3 gals. When the pump shuts off on this one, thats about as much fuel as you are going to get in it except for probably less than a dollars worth to even out the dollar amount.

I agree, the DTE is not accurate. Most I ever can get in the truck is 18-21 gallons....I just never want to run it empty, but those 6 gallons can mean an easy 100 miles before a real fillup is needed.
