Why Does My Tailgate Have A Flex Fuel Badge?

There is a flex fuel badge on my tailgate, and the fuel cap says no E15-E85. I thought flex fuel vehicles could burn this ethanol crap? Going by the fuel cap warning, I can only run E10, which these days is just about all you can get unless you fuel up at the airport or marina.

What year truck do you have and what does the manual say.

are you talking about the 2012 F 250 in your signature..

if you are. someone replaced the gas cap..

read the manual .....

I also have a 2012 6.2L.... it is flex fuel.. one engine.
but running flex fuel.. expect bad gas mileage.. my opinion.

Yes, sorry it is the '12 in the signature. Are all the 6.2's flex fuel? I was thinking someone may have swapped the tailgate out.

The flex fuel option gives you different fuel lines so the ethanol doesn't eat through them, correct? The internals of the engine are no different.

I do have to dig the manual out. So far I have only read specific topics.

Yes all 6.2 in the SD line are flex fuel (not sure about the 2017), I don't have a emblem on my TG because I destroyed the original TG and didn't have it replaced

I have no idea of the 2017.. not seen one..

my tail gate is original and has the flex fuel logo... but it does have a few scratches and small dents ..

Well, the manual is only making me more confused. It says "if equipped" for flex fuel, the filler cap will be yellow and there will be a sticker on the filler door. No sticker, and the filler cap is black. That leads me to believe the tailgate was replaced at some point. Why would someone replace the filler cap and peel the sticker off the door?

When I bought the truck I did a VIN search and happened across the build specs. That's how I know I have the snow plow prep front springs and the 10k gvw package. I'm going to try to find that again. I don't think I saved it anywhere.

Peel that emblem off the tailgate. Mine came off the day I bought it, just a cleaner look. Then put regular gas in it and have no worry.

That's been my default position so far. I am questioning it now because I have to drive up to Michigan next week and E20 is sold at just about every station in the area, and more stations around here are selling E20 and E85.

Well, I can understand then. All the 6.2's are flex fuel. I just double checked myself by looking at the available engines in '12. There is only one. The 8th digit in your vin# should be a 6. That represents the 6.2 flex fuel. It would have to be a different number to be none flex fuel. BTW, I have no sticker on the inside of my fuel door.

You may be on to something here. Best way to get that FF off?

I just peeled mine off with my fingers, then some gunk off to clean any adhesive. If it's stuck good , use fishing line as a saw to cut through the glue behind the emblem.

Could have lost its seal and caused the check engine light to come on. Pretty common on newer vehicles.
