Early vs. Late ZF S5-42 Clutch Difference Questions...
I'm gathering parts for a ZF swap into my 4.9L '95 F-150 that currently has an E4OD.
I found a S5-42 behind a 351 in a '91 F-250 in the junkyard. It looked recently rebuilt (gears all felt nice and tight, obviously newer clutch parts and RTV silicone between the trans and tcase). Since it was 50% off day at the yard, I grabbed it, the very smooth shifting 1356 behind it, and the matching front driveshaft for $150 for all three!
Anyways, I understand that there is a difference in clutch parts starting in '93. I grabbed the pedal assembly and master from a '96 at the yard, which should fit my '95 perfectly. Now I'm getting ready to buy a clutch, slave cylinder, flywheel and starter. From what I understand, so long as I stick with the 93+ style parts, I shouldn't run into any problems, as I haven't found any thing stating a difference in the small-block S5-42's from 87-95. I just want to verify that nothing changed on the front of the trans itself when they switched clutch parts.
Anybody have any experience with putting 93+ clutch parts on an early S5-42?

I don't remember a change in the casting, but you can check in the parts list here under literature and catalogs: ZF Friedrichshafen AG | Service Portfolio
