i know its been a while for this thread but i was just at the local ford dealer today getting a new fuel filter and they had two brand new 2011 F350 trucks delivered. The first was acustom ordered Xl reg cab 4x4 6.2, 4.10 electriclocker, towing package, snowplowpackage, with built in trailer brakes, it had five rear leaf springs?? The secondwas a 53thousand dollar crew cab long bed king ranch, diesel, towing package, builtin trailer brakes but it only had three rear leaf springs?? I cant understand why the crew cab long bed diesel had less springs but i asked the salesmen and a mechanic who was looking at the king ranch why ford does this and neither could give me an answer, the mechanic said it has to do with the options ordered?? well both trucks are f350 with the towing package and trailer brakes? I dont know....

The lower leaf count thing started with the 2008 F-450 pickup which could haul quite a bit, but still not as much as a F450 chassis cab. The lower count leafs seem to be thicker... Also fewer leafs would mean it is easier to put the big nylon washer at the ends of each leaf and prevent squeeking. I like the factory overload leaf on top of the leaf-pack setup on my 2010, the rear suspension is soft for a bit of the suspension travel but can still handle a lot of weight.

Here are some new pictures of my truck with a decend load. This much weight would have dropped the back at least 1.5-2" before I added the leafs.

23 Bags of Red Multch (wet) - Aprox 45+ lbs each = 1035+ Lbs
4 Bags of Sand - 50lbs each = 200 lbs
40 Landscaping Bricks - 5-7lbs each = 200+ lbs
Wheel Barrow = `25lbs

Total Weight ~ 1460 lbs

My truck sagged less between 1/4 and 1/2 inch total! Look at the pictures.
