Going to the drags

Got invited by some older muscle car owning friends to go to Cedar Falls Raceway for test and tune friday night to have some fun running our toys. Not expecting to blow any doors off, just going for fun. About the only things not stock on my pickup are the 4 inch exhuast, 6637, gauges, TS chip/ tuning, and some leftovers from a Banks kit. It's a 02 Reg. Cab 4x4 automatic. I've already taken off the tailgate and unloaded all the tools from the toolbox so I should weigh just under 7000 lbs.

Any tips? I plan on just running the 100 hp Race tune since the truck always seemed to like it better and quite frankly the 140 Extreme scares the crap outta me. Block dosen't need any windows and I'd like to drive her home afterwards.

Thanks, Dustin

Well if you're looking to put down any decent times you'll wanna pull some boost before you launch.

I typically pull ~10lbs of boost before I launch. Just stand on that brake and lean on the skinny pedal and as soon as the lights drop let off the brake put your right foot to the floor and don't move it until you're at the end of the track. (hopefully after seeing the win light)

I did that in my RCLB 4x4 99.5 for 2 hours non-stop at RRE and while my trans wasn't loving life the motor was plenty happy and that was all in my 140 tune.

I'd be more worried about the trans than the rods to be honest, but don't do anything beyond what you think is safe. After running my truck for 2 hours straight at the track I'm sure my oil temps were WAY up, although I have no way to actually check them on the fly, and my shifts were very squishy but everything is back to normal at this point.

If it was my truck I would run it, but I don't want the responsibility of telling you that it is 100% safe when there is no guarantee. There is no guarantee that anything mechanical is 100% safe at any point no matter what you're doing.

Sorry for the double post but you can look at this and basically see how these trucks launch.

Make sure you use your 4x4 otherwise you will sit and spin.
