i lost count. (im right on your tail though Ford4Life7.3 lol. edit, nope.i just did hydroboost and a few more things, then just bought a turbo.we're likely neck and neck right now.)

but i know the bank can't take her for a missed payment.
i know she's going to be there and ready to carry a couple ton at any time,or start instantly during a nor'easter and move some snow.
i know if she breaks,i can fix it myself and be right back in action.
i know iv had only one breakdown during winter when i once got a bad batch of fuel, that diesel 911 pumping through my electrical fuel pump cured inside 10 minutes.
i know she still needs more too,but it doesn't trouble me at all.

I feel the same way XLT. I have 100% confidence in my truck to take on long trips and to pull long hauls. Everything works minus CC and backup lights. I don't have to pay anything off, I can usually fix small stuff on the road(been there, done that), and it is much cheaper than a new truck.

Oooooo this is gonna be a great thread

Well lets see here, I don't have to much into mine ...yet.. the expensive is to come.

So far:

New box, doors, fenders, hood, and a running truck (all for 1000$).

Florida rust free cab from scrap yard (350$) (+ 300$ for a trailer to haul it up here, but I won't count that in since i'm keeping the trailer).

Not to bad so far

Now all expenses done before truck retirement just to keep it going, actually wasn't much at all considering the mileage...

2 sets of injectors, 2 fan clutchs, 1 rebuilt radiator, 2 mechanical fuel pumps, fenders, doors and tailgate (all replaced in 1999, along with a fresh paint job), 4? sets of tires, 3 sets of ball joints, 2 sets of tie rods, 2 windshields, aftermarket sliding back window, CB radio/antenna, 1 glow plug controller, many glow plugs, 3 sets of batteries, and 1 ZF5 oil change. And all the small things like fuel filters and oil filters etc., lost count of those.

That pretty much covers it. lol

Camper now...

Head gaskets, IP, 1 set of injectors, 1 mechanical fuel pump, tie rods early this year (was the original non greasable ones), 10 tranny flushes, 4 or 5 pan drops/filter, 2 sets of batteries,

.... you get the idea

Purchase price $1000

Well this is a little hard. As it started out an 88 bronco shell and 2 (in peices) 302 engines for $500. After about #3000 it was a running driving truck. Then the fun started lol! I bought an 86 F250 4x4 extended cab with 6.9 and c6 (wish it had been a 350 with 4 speed) for $1300 delivered. And the following,

New rod and main bearings
new oil pump
Did the valves myself
new glow plugs (twice I bought junk bosch the first time lol)
new starter
2 new batteries
all new gaskets
a small fortune in drill bits to drill out the rivots on both frames and drill new holes for suspension
a lot of blood and sweat doing it all myself lol
4 nearly new 16.5 mudders
Then she breathed to life with a new oil burning heart!! What a proud papa I was.
Then over the next 12 months she got,
Rebuilt heads (and all those gaskets again lol)
3!!!!!!!!!! of those damn C6 trannies (last one is still in the shed)

Go ahead a few months,
body lift (made it myself)
new body bushings

Then came the 81 body and t18 (glad to see the auto go!)
37" m/ts
3" duels
My deer killer bumpers lol (made by me with free materials)
She hydrolocked so some more gaskets lol

Most recently, the d60 front and 4.10 gears

This of course does not include the regular maintance stuff as I consider that the cost of ownership. All said and done my baby tells me that she figures it is around $15000 (18000 if you include her gasser days). I know I will never get that out of her but I will own her for life. Besides the look of awe from some people when they see/hear her and all the "hey what you got in there can i take a look?" Is payment enough.

personally, i paid 800 for the van (tax+license came to nearly 1k), engine+trans had a recent rebuilt to the tune of 3-4k.ish parts, not including labor, drove it home, got glow plugs and return lines after while, shocks, radiator thats about it besides all the toolboxes and interior stuff i've done. puts me less that 2000 into it so far, planning to get myself a turbo and a gearvendors overdrive one of these days, but thats when i have money to spend to the tune of $3 each give or take

A guy told me awhile back when I was rebuilding my engine, that I was getting alot of money tied up in my pickup, then he asked how much, I told him I honestly have know Idea. that it's not the money, it's an obsession. now I want a visor for the windshield, and a sleeper behind the cab for my german sheperd to ride in. and then paint. I just know I will never be done. I originaly traded concrete work for the truck.

Rough estimate for this money pit:

Truck............................... 4900 (paid at least 2000 too much for it)
Odd things when I first got it..300
Oil..........................At least 300 (Was burning a gallon a week when I bought it)
Engine................................500
Transmission parts................450
Reman ip.............................300
Rebuilt front end...................360
Glow plugs...........................90
Vacuum pump.......................120
Lift pump.............................40
Other..................................300

Total...................................7660

Probably at least a 1000 more than that really.
