You're somewhat on the right track. To use a set up like this you'll have to go high steer. With the set up in the diagram the draglink will hit the passenger spring.

The steering pictured is called "inverted T" and it is found on the 80's & 90's F-350's with the d60.

It's a decent way to get close to cross over steering without having to do a "high steer" arm. But - as was started above the drag link might hit the leaf spring as they are closer to the center of the truck on the 70's trucks than they are on the 80's/90's trucks.
Keep in mind you can also make up a custom setup like this and move the connection point of the drag link to tie rod closer to the center of the truck. I'll try & find a pic...

It you look at the picture you posted - that top link (drag link) that drops from the pitman arm down to the tie rod would be moved up in crossover steering. It goes above the leaf springs and connects to the "high steer" arm on top of the knuckle. Here's a pic of mine.

okay so, if i get some high steer arms and then run a 't' style drag and link, we could potentially be in the clear? should i still run a pitman arm and hopefully it will clear the crossmember?
thanks again for the replies

It's either cross over or inverted T style - not both. For cross over you will have to make the drag link.

There are a bunch of threads that go over this. 75F350 covers part numbers, etc. of good tie rod ends to use (Chevy 1 ton) in at least one of them.

As for the pitman arm question - how would you steer without running one????
