1995 f-350 5.8 L fuel pump issues

Hi everyone,

In my 350 i have noticed the fuel sensor on the front tank does not work however the fuel pump does. and on the rear tank the sensor works but the pump does not. is it possible for this to happen or am i overlooking something? if this is the case is it possible to replace just the sensor or just the pump? i thought i read somewhere they were all one unit. if possible to replace one or the other can i just remove the sensor from my rear tank and place in the front take and vice versa? it has the 351 5.8l under the hood not the 7.3 diesel.

Thanks in advance,

EBiN5446

It's probably possible to buy each individually but that'd depend on availability of such parts, check rockauto.com on that.

The sending unit and fuel pickup are one unit and are unique to the front & rear tanks, you can't swap 'em around and have 'em work correctly (shapes of the bends in the tubing & components).

Given the work involved in dropping a tank and swapping this stuff out, I'd rather replace the entire sender + pump assembly.

They are sepert units.
You can replace the sender or the pump.

The pump part:
Buy Airtex Fuel Pump Module Assembly E2064MN at Advance Auto Parts

The sender part:

ctubutis - Thanks for the reply and information.

subford - are these the best parts on the market and are the cheaper parts that are just as good as these im on a thin budget. most likely will just get one tank proper first then ge4t the second done later but if there are cheaper parts i might be able to get both done at same time.

also are either of these parts for the fuel level sensor. b/c thats all i need for the front tank to be proper.

thanks in advance.

It's hard to determine this without taking it apart to look but I really doubt this is your problem.

In my experience, what happens when the gauge stops working is a very very very fine wire gets worn through and breaks, this wire is wrapped around a piece of material and a brass contact glides up & down against it as the fuel level changes.

Some floats will develop pin holes and fill with gasoline and sink but that float doesn't look like the kind where that happens, I don't think those are the hollow buoys that suffer from that problem.

That "Float" is a Carburetor Float, it is an item you do not have in your truck.
The "entire assembly" will work and has the sender and pump.
The "the fuel level sensor" is called the Sender.
I will not say how good these parts are and they are cheaper than the same part from a Ford dealer.
The Ford dealer will sell the best quality and at the highest price (sometimes).

Huh... Wow... You're right, I didn't even look at the words, the float just looked to me like some of the flat, rectangular ones I sometimes see in 90s tanks.
