Looting; one of the perks of my job
As most of you know I own a hauling business. Occasionally we get unintentional bonuses in the form of tangible goods. Usually it's a spare crow bar, or a shovel. If we're lucky maybe some unwanted ratcheting tie downs. People through out so much good stuff (don't worry. We recycle or donate everything we can.)
Recently we got a job in Thousand Oaks to clean out left over property after the tenants had left. They were a group (4-6 by the looks) of college students renting the apartment and had left some stuff behind. Mostly old mattresses, junk. And some old, broken TVs. One TV in the apartment looked nice though! So in my very wise decision making, I decided to set it aside. All the TVs got separated anyway, because they can't go in the landfill. So we brought this one home and plugged it in.
*crosses fingers*
Nope. Flashing red light under LAMP on the front. I didn't realize it was a rear projection tv because it's not nearly as deep as most. Only about 10" deep. I thought it was an early LCD or plasma. So I opened where I assumed the bulb was. Yupp. Busted to heck. I was well aware of how expensive they can be. A quick eBay search revealed that these bulbs are only $70. So I bought one with a good return policy from amazon. 2 days later it arrives as we come home from work again. David and I were excited. Well no need going on any more. Here it is, my almost brand new (I'm assuming. The remote has the original batteries!) 1080p Sony TV!
California has a law that says "once it's on the truck, the hauling company owns it." they just say it in many more words I'm sure. Tow companies like to use that law a lot. It is my favorite law this week

David brought home a complete sound system. Complete with a kenwood receiver, a sub, and 2 Boston floor speakers (the ones that are about 4' tall) the system also included a salvageable 200 disc cd changer and a working Monster power distribution unit. But he elected to pass on those two. He is more into music and sound quality (look behind his truck seat!) than I am so I let him have first pick at the sound stuff.

Hey, that's cool! Free stuff is sweet.
You know, keep at this stuff, and some day you may catch the eye of a big television producer. You and your future son will become big stars in your own sitcom. You could call it, hmmm let's see, how about Spooner and Son. Yeah, that sounds like it could be a hit.
Oh, wait....

Officer Hopkins: When we're finished, people will be able to walk down the streets safely in Los Angeles.
Fred Spooner: Yeah they can walk in Los Angeles, but they'll still be running in Watts.

And I do that a lot now. I didnt watch tv very much before, but now I enjoy my living room much more often! We also bought a brand new leather couch a week before. Then when we got the new tv we had to get that TV cabinet because the old TV was in an entertainment center that the new tv wouldnt fit in. So its like a whole new room!
I brought home a new tool box the other day, also a loot item. You can see it here:

Do you realize that, having posted a pic with Black Ops on the screen, you are now morally obligated to share your gamer tag with the rest of us who never out grew video games?

Yesterday we got another item of loot.
An original 1880 copy of a Mark Twain book.
The book was published but a Canadian publisher. After doing some research, I have come up with this:

The book was published but a Canadian publisher. After doing some research, I have come up with this:
Very scarce first Canadian edition, with the first state point Moses on the frontispiece. Fully illustrated volume, with work by Brown, Williams, Day, others, and "with also three or four pictures made by the author of this book, without outside help." This edition is far more rare than the American edition. 410 pages + 2 pages ads.
