low oil pressure on start up

Just changed the oil and now the oil pressure takes a few seconds to build. It might be a failed check valve in the oil filter although in 34 years of working on my '65 I have never had one fail. Anyone had this experience? Steve

Hey Steve, I dont know if they fail but I've had the same issue to the point that the mains started to knock before the pressure would build, could not figure it out till I changed the
Oil again and noticed that the oil filter manufacturer had started making the filter without the check valve, the explanation I got was that the newer engines don't require them seeing that there already installed on the engine block oil galley. I hope this info can be of help, have a good day, mike.

I have been using NAPA 1515. Bought a case during the last sale. These are supposed to be their GOLD filters. Steve

I should have added that WIX makes all of NAPA's filters and are generally pretty good. Steve

Like the batteries, Fram, Wix, & Purolator make about 99% of all the filters on store shelves. Put whatever name the buyer wants on them.

Yep....I knew a guy who worked at the Glidden paint factory north of Dallas and he said they'd run 1000 cans of a color with the Glidden label and then 1000 cans of the same color, same everything, with some other company's label.

This sort of thing is common.
