apparently we use the wrong names for these things.

R clips people usually call cotter keys.
I knew it was wrong and decided to look it up, though its partially correct.

I hate metric system.

Though between the current systems machinists have to memorize today, its a nightmare for them. I just guess and then check a chart to see if I"m right.

I've always referred to a cotter pin as what your link describes as a split pin.

It's not that nobody is bitching about it, just that it gets no press... Funny how that works isn't it? But noooo, there is no bias in the main stream media....
