The M-100 was made by FoMoCo but branded as a Mercury. Rarity? Yeah, I'd say so... Must be a PITA to find a tailgate!

Is that an M-250?

There was a big pissing going on over which side of the boarder it was built on and taxes, so to resolve it, all Ford trucks sold in Canada were Merks.

That is the boiled down version.

If I recall, there is one in NJ? It's been for sale for a number of years. Same color combo, but a F100. Full resto and they want good money for it also.

Here's how I understand it:
Back in the day in Canada there were 'Ford' dealerships and 'Lincoln/Mercury' dealerships. In small towns, there might be only a 'Lincoln/Mercury' dealership (no Ford dealership). In order to compete with Chebby and Dudge, they badged Ford trucks as Mercs in order to be sold at the 'Lincoln/Mercury' dealerships. In the early years Mercury's were produced in Canada to get around the 20% (?) tariff. In later years (after Nafta) Mercs were produced in the states and shipped to Canada to be sold.
So as a consequence there's lots and lots of old Fords, and a few Mercury's kicking around...

A reasonably cohert discussion of this can be found at the following link:
Curbside Classics: Mercury Trucks – We Do Things A Bit Differently Up Here

I've seen seen other references to this information over the years. Google will show several other similar items.

This scheme was very similar to what Dodge did with Fargo trucks.

If anyone has more/better info, please chime in.......
