Hello Guys,
Been considering replacing the 302 with 3 speed manual set up with a 351W and C6 option. Could anyone tell me if this set up would work with the original transfer case and if so would there be an adapter required?
Also, What if I were to go with a crazy idea of a big block 460. is it doable. Has anyone heard of this project done? What mods will there be required?
Many thanx.
Anything can be done..... but unless you can make you own headers and dont mind loosing the front inner wheel housings, not to mention the steering linkage.... i would forget about the 460..... unless you can make your own headers and fabricate like a pro then I would recommend a 408 windsor stroker.... in the end you will save time and money.... you could almost get a second job and pay for the 408 before you spent all the time to complete the 460 swap....
You can use a C6 easily if you have one for a small block. You need either a c-6 to Dana 20 adapter kit or run the trans case that came with the C-6, which will require floor mods to shift....
Thank you for the tips Boba.
is the 408 actually the same block as the 351 windsor? and if so, what are the differences?is it the crank?
Now, I may have a second project then I d be using the 460 for that case and that is strip version Bronco. just eliminating the front axle and dropping the 460 for quarter mile.
What would I need to do then?
to create a drag bronco you need to rework the front suspension and rear suspension..... I would thing a spring under would be the least you needed to do for the rear.... if not a rear subframe from a place like S&W race cars to get the back down close to the ground... the the front you would need a straight axle.... you could probably graft in some oldschool hot rod stuff like a deuce front suspension..... the trailing arms would just attach to the frame and then you would have a solid axle.... then a whole lot of body work.... actually never seen it done... but I would bet you could make a pretty slick rod using a bronco frame as a basis and then mount a 30s body on it....
The differences are the crank rods and pistons.... To make a 408 you need a 351W block.... it better to get a post 93 block because the came from the factory with provisions for a roller cam.... which means you dont need to spend extra money for conversion lifters.... its about a 300 dollar savings.... and a stroker kit.... technically 408 has a .030 overbore....
