Random Tire Cleaning Questions
My rims have been pretty much neglected for the past year and were looking like crap from the brake dust. More brown colored than polished chrome. Some wierd textured stuff (asphalt maybe?) as well.
Then I tried Nevr-Dull and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
I'll get before/after pics up tomorrow. I'm pulling a 24 hour shift at the moment. So far I'm extremely happy. My Expy has purty rims again
The brake dust was so bad that I thought my rims were pitted and ruined
I tried all the popular cleaning sprays and got no results. Then I tried Nevr-Dull and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
Spent about 3 hours cleaning 2 rims using the Nevr-Dull. Stuff really works. The grime comes off with a little effort and the rims look absolutely brand new.
Then used a Rim cleaner to clean any residue off.
Was bored, and tried the Mr. Clean eraser on 1 of the rims. Holy Batman do those things work good. In about 15 minutes the eraser removed ~90% of the grime from the rim. Only thing left is some water spots that I'll use the Nevr-Dull to remove.
Oh yeah, the question. Is Nevr-Dull safe for use on rims? I've been using it in the Navy to polish brass/chrome/copper for many years. Just concerned about it damaging the cladding of my rims. Then used a Rim cleaner to clean any residue off.

yep, the faux metal covers (hubcaps) on my supposedly "Premium" 20" rims. can't really complain much, they do look good...would rather have the 22" Harley rims though
it's pretty funny seeing the shiny orbs as we drive again. the rims are so reflective that there are 2 spinning wheels of light on the road next to the Expy. It's actually a neat effect. Sometime i'll try to get a picture of it

FWIW I have found good results with 3M's "Quick Wax" spray. Comes in a black bottle. I clean the wheels weekly, but spray a light coat on the wheels after they are clean and dry. Seems to keep the dust from clinging quite as bad. The spray wax is mostly water, with a smaller amount of carnuba in it. Doesn't need time to haze up and then require a second wipe. Just spray and wipe dry.
Oh , factory 20" painted wheels on my F150.
I also use it between waxes (every 4 months or so) when I wash the truck (nearly weekly) to bring back some depth in the shine and give a touch of protection that washing removes.

okay, all 4 wheels are "clean". I got lazy again and they are all about 90% clean. Hands got cramped and I called it a night. Wife plans on me finishing up tomorrow after we buy another can of Nevr-Dull.
I did check for fine scratches in the finish. Nada. So I'm pretty happy. The Magic Eraser does most of the work, and then the Nevr-Dull kills the tough grime. Great combo IMO for cleaning rims.
