DIED ON THE ROAD
My 96 PSD quit on me the other night, I changed the fuel filter and it was full of crap. I cleaned it all up the best I could then it started right up and ran fine for for about 15 min. it was idiling and it just died. I started it back up and it would run but sounded and felt like it was running on about4 or 5 cyl. It died again and I had to wait about 15 min. for it to start so I could pull it back into the shop it was running fine then, so I checked fuel pressure with gauge it pegged a 50 lb. gauge about this time it died again so I pulled out the filter and the can was full of fuel and it looked clean. It would not restart so I had to let it set.
Does anybody have any ideas where to look for my problem? It dies just like you shut the key off, I am thinking something is shutting down the fuel to injectors maybe or that power is cut off to injectors?
Thanks RB
the truck had been setting for at least 5 or 6 weeks

Clean out the FPR (fuel pressure regulator). There is a screen in there that gets clogged up and won't flow fuel (or air). Pull the filter out and there is a 1/4" hole on the driver side of the bowl. Cut or pull the cotton off a q-tip and use it to scrape the crud out of that hole. If you're really feeling ambitious pull the whole FPR assembly off the side of the bowl (just two bolts), remove the screen completely and give it a thorough cleaning that way.
BTW, the fuel pressure with the engine running should be in the neighborhood of 65-70 PSI.
Try that first, and we can go from there.

I pulled the FPR and cleaned it out, the screen was completly stopped up. I was hopeful that was the problem but I also know how my luck runs. I put it back together and it fired right up I backed it out of my shop and it ran and idled perfect for 5 min. [ I watched the clock ] Then it died and would not restart. I let it set for about an hour went back and it fired right up. Dezjavu all over again. I'm thinkin it has to be in the wiring to the injectors or the injectors themselves?
