Any tips for removing pulley wheel off alternator?
This is for a 95amp alternator in a 1997 Explorer, but I don't want to stray too far from this forum and figure they must be all the same.
The alternator is out on the bench beside the replacement. Replacement didn't come with pulley wheel so I need to move it over. Just can't seem to figure out how to lock the alternator so I can wrench it off.
Is there a trick to locking the axle? Big screwdriver stuck in the guts?
I know from the new one that it screws on/off like normal.
All I have are hand tools right now, now air tools.
Thanks!!

Wow, Hope your kiddin about the hospital thing!?! No place for a large allen key in the pully end of the shaft? If the pully is cast you can usuially "scotch" it with a screwdriver between the backside and the front of the housing. If the pully is stamped steel rather than cast they're pretty easy to bend-be carefull about prying on it from behind. There is a special tool to get the pully off once the nut is removed. the parts store may have one (if your having trouble with the pully after the nut is off).
