Here's a pic from my home town. This was still a gas station when I lived there.

That Union 76, Calmos station looks to be the inspiration for the movie Cars.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. After I saw these pictures last night, I searched Cars to look at their building.

Actually, it is the Conoco station (Shamrock TX on Route 66) which was the inspiration....

This building was originally a branch terminal for The Harmony Line. The Harmony Line was a short railroad that operated between Pittsburgh and Butler, Pa. The railroad operated from 1908 through 1931. The pictured building served as a passenger terminal at a major branch of the railroad.Sometime after the railroad shut down, the building was converted into an Amoco service station. It functioned as a gas station for about 50 years. Currently it serves as an apartment/rental building and looks to be around for several more years.

Carty's Camp Needles CA on Route 66. Probably between 1912 to 1915.

And of course, my garage (photos from 1947). I had a very talented lady take the old B&W and make it come to life with the correct colors of the products and signage. I am about 95% done with this colorization as there are still a few items I am trying to figure out. The garage will be brought back to look like this in a few years as it is in Galena KS on Route 66 and it is a little hike to get there from Scottsdale AZ! I have a FB page set up to follow its progress: Front Street Garage on FB

There was no Route 66 in 1915, and the car in the upper pic at the right looks like a mid 1920's Chevrolet.

You are correct BUT the building is still there on Route 66 in Needles CA. As for the year, this is what I was told by the historical society so if that actually is a photo from the 20's, I will let them know.

Historical Societies/museums are not always correct, especially when it comes to undated pics.

Perris CA museum has a pic of Wyatt Earp holding a rifle, says it was taken just after the Tombstone gunfight (that did not take place at the OK corral!).

But, Earp is holding a model 1892 Winchester, so the pic wasn't taken in 1881 nor anywhere near AZ

EAK 69--wow that will be great when you get it done. I'm near Fort Smith, AR which is less than 3 hours from Galena so when I get my '56 F100 on the road I'll have to come up and get pictures with it.
