Okay i found this f100 and i really wanna resore it. but i want to know a little about it before i even start. I know you going to be frustrated cause i don't know "squat" about old trucks. Well it looks like someone tried to restore it because it has some stuff that i know have been replacesd like the gas tank (PERFECT CONDITION), and because it has glass Cherry Bombs on it. Exaust pipe looks new. Frame is in semi good condition. The whole truck (inside and out) looks like it was in the middle of a paint fight (like with cans)covered with differant colors cept the windows (must have been replaced). It has a straight 6 in it. I know it was running in 92 because there are like 4 little tabby things with what they did to it and how much it cost from the ... umm...place (?) like change oil _ quarts of 20W40... you know the basics.... the box needs some work. It's a Step side. and the whole inside is gunna need to be redone cause it is "splashed" with red paint. All the wires under the dash seem to be ripped out. Both floors are bad. front drivers corner is all rusted out.. you know he basics. (but god frame!!!) I stoped and look after hours so the dude wasn't there to tell me bout it. here is what the door (on the truck) said....

oh yah...the shifter is on the column...but as it sits there when i put the clutch in (very "springy") i can only get three positions out of it (1st 2nd and reverse????). Does any body know the year the estimated value (your guess is better than mine guarntee it.) Well i know i'll have more questions as the time arises. any clue ast o how much i should offer??? Also any clue on the displacemen to f the engine? Thanks a TRILLION!!!!!
The only changes I'd make to Nathan's info follows from the "Catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers 1946-1972" by Cars and Parts Magazine:
780342 would have been mfg'd in November '65
The color code W was Marlin blue
281 - The 2 is the interior color (blue) The 81 is body type (conventional cab) as Nathan indicated
Tranny code C is the light duty 3 spd Ford
rearend code 09 is the 9" Ford axle with 3.70 ratio
On the column shifter - starting in neutral pull the lever toward you and down for 1st; keep holding it toward you and push upward past neutral and you'll find reverse.
Back to neutral - push the lever toward the dash and up is 2nd; keep pushing it toward the dash and pull down past neutral where you'll find 3rd.
Its a simple 'H' pattern like this:
R 2
N
1 3
