98' F150 Manual 4X4 linkage mechanism???

Has anyone ever rebuilt that manual linkage, or are they rebuild-able at all. They are new fro m Ford # F75Z7210AB. Apparently they wear out and the bushings are not available, You must buy the whole mechanism so I'm told at The dealer? Its an aluminum unit inside a rubber boot with nylon bushings.

The tranny shop said they usually break when they try and fix them, but they don't bother anymore at $80.00 and hour. Id like to hear from some of your guys that have done it if it's possible and save my self a $100 bucks?
