Um... Did I break something?
My water pump broke on Sunday. Just finished the install this morning with a NAPA new pump, not reman.
I flushed the system, put in new coolant and cranked it... nothing but rollover. Checked the wires for the CPS, checked all the sensors, double checked everything, just rolls over.
I stared at the engine for awhile and then replaced the grey CPS with my brand new, black CPS from International. Truck starts up but runs like a gasser running very rich. Unburnt fuel through the exhaust (grey/blue smoke) to the point of popping off once or twice.
I shut it off and checked everything again and it still runs with a lope and unburnt fuel.
With all that said, I have had a sticky injector for the past year that eventually opens after 5 minutes of driving or warm up time. It has never behaved like this before so I think it might still be the CPS?

I would make sure that the connections in the CPS plug are absolutely clean and dry. Maybe have some anti freeze in their still? Doesn't really sound like symptoms of a bad CPS but the fact that it at least started after you changed that leads to something in that circuit you would think.

I took the shroud and fan back off for easy access.
I found some wire damage on the CPS lead, cleaned it up, and zip-tied it. I then cleaned the connector. It didn't seem damp but I put some dielectric grease on it anyway. That didn't change anything.
I plugged the block heater in and now the engine has seemed to calm down a tad. It now rocks back and forth and sounds like a high compression big block... just loping alone with a nice stutter.
Any other suggestions?

Tim, I know! There's nothing there except that CPS! It's driving me crazy. I was supposed to go to work this afternoon, but here I sit, with a diesel that runs and sounds like a big block racer. Normally, I'd be pleased cause I love that sound, having grown up with Cigarette boats, but I am not pleased at all.
Think it will do any damage if I run it on the road for a bit? Maybe I have another bad injector that decided to coincidentally stop working?

Mine do that when cold.
I just replaced 2 bad injectors it was stop for while then now there 1 or 2 bad injectors on other side again. It still start so that best part.
For me I start then idle for 1 min then go it gone in about 1 mile then run great.
Do you have AE scanner? Check for injectors buzz and test to see if you have bad injectors at cold engine and hot engine.
Mine go away when hot but if cold engine it will show bad injectors which sticky.
