V-10 Exhaust
No problem, Brody. Welcome to FTE!!! Ask any question you like, but do remember about the search feature. There are a lot of topics that have been beat to death...
I have made a few exhaust mods. The details and a sound clip are on my web page (click link at bottom of this post). Let me know if you have any questions about my setup. Some guys (and gals) here have modified their exhaust in different ways, so there is a good cross-section represented. Everyone is willing to help out.
Best regards,
Jeff

Hmmm......I don't know about getting a throaty V-8 sound from a V-10, The V-10 has a much shorter stroke to it. That effects the sound a good bit. However I installed a gibson exhaust (high performance) on my truck and it sounds pretty aggressive. When I get on it the truck sounds like a race truck. Now My truck doesn't qualify as regular stock (done a few things to the engine) but I don't think the sound would be all that different.

Bigdmizer is right about one thing though... you're not going to get a V8 throaty sound out of a V10. Even with the Banks headers and the Gibson cat-back on my truck it doesn't sound anything like a V8. It does sound a lot better than the stock exhaust, but nowhere like a V8.
There are others here running true duals, duals w/o cats, straight pipes, etc... but none of them will tell you that it sounds like a V8.
Best regards,
Jeff

A normal big V8 has a "bwah-bwah-bwah" type of sound. Nice and deep. The V10, because of vavle-timing/overlap and less dead time between exhaust pulses, you don't get that nice exhaust note.
Others here compare it to rice-burners. That's quite fitting. Their valve timing is mostly variable, so they get quite a long torque curve. Something Ford has done with the V10 without variable valve timing.
My stock V10 sounds pretty good but with a sort of a hiss out the exhaust. To me, it sounds like a diesel without the ping.

Monsta, you've already done what I would have done first. I can't help but think it may be a bad plug or plug wire.......that with 9 hitting and 1 missing....it really shows up at low rpms in a strain(the hill). The cat. conv. suggestion sounded reasonable, too. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Have had my 250 for about 2200 miles now. Had been pondering an exhaust mod. Maybe I will just let it be. Don't think I will be happy with anything less than the awsome sound of a V-8.
By the way I'm a first timer and this site is the heat.
I've already had my soft thump question answered!!
