My wideband recommendation

Hi all,

Last week I finally was able to get my own wideband oxygen sensor.

This is the one that I got:

PLX DM-6 SM-AFR | Wideband Air Fuel Gauge

The price is really nice and so far, I think it's a great choice.
It shows a full range from 10.0 to 20.0.

My favorite feature about it though is the active graph that you can watch. It's great for being able to visually SEE rich or lean spikes, instead of just watching numbers dance.

Here's a video I made of it running:

PLX wideband sensor installed - YouTube

I also showed some of the extra features, like being able to set an alarm to let you know if it drops below or rises above a certain AFR. There's also the option of having it show what the lowest and highest AFR your sensor has read. Plus a few other extras like being able to see the sensor's health, reaction speed, etc. etc. Really quite the bang for the buck.

About the only thing I don't like about it is that it came with all the plugs already installed on all the wires, so there's really no way to run the wires through the firewall without either cutting and resplicing the wire, or drilling a big 1" hole to put the plug through. Oh well, a rather minor complaint.

Now that looks like one great tuning tool! It certainly puts a narrow band gauge to shame.

You need the Molex extraction tool to remove the pins from the connector-run your wires-then reinstall the pins in the connector. http://cablesandconnectors.com/PIX/phi61390.jpg

"...this should allow almost perfect carb tuning which could be shared with the rest of us holley 600 users?" AB is using an Holley 80555C spread bore, I'm using a 4160/1848-1 465 cfm square bore and Kevin is currently using the Summit carb.

Well, maybe. Not all 300s are equal and what works for one does not of necessity work for all....and that is where a tuning device like the AFR gauge comes into play. It allows one to tune to what the engine likes, manner of driving, etc., etc., etc.

Oh sure, use my crumby ol' wideband and as soon as something better comes along you just toss it aside like a bag of manure. We men are all alike.

Well, I couldn't keep it forever.

The one you have is a really nice unit (and still has a pretty hefty price tag on it).
