I recently painted my truck. After the 2nd coat of clear went on I started getting small cracks. I've heard them call crows feet, checking, cracking, and shrinkage cracks. Some spots were heavier then others. Tonight I sanded or scuffed it up with a 520 grit paper and decided to reshoot it. Putting down the base coat it started to check in the same spots. I resanded and shoot again with the same results. I even used a da and shoot self etching primer on the spots and ended up with the same results. The temp in my shop guessing is around 80-90 degrees tonight. Is there such thing as. Shrinkage cracks from the heat? If so., why is it in the same spots? Is the primer not compatable with the base coat? I'm at such a loss and I am running out of paint and ideas. Any help or advice would be great thanks.
Its a urethane base coat clear coat. The base coat is brand is called Restoration Shop. I'm using the slow urethane reducer for 85 degree temps. It calls for a 2:1 ratio mixed with the reducer. The ruducers brand is Kustom Shops. I got the paint from a place my family always gets there paint. We have never of had a problem with them. When I went out in the shop to get you the brand name, I did realize they sent me two kinds of reducer. One is kustom Shop and the other is Restoration Shop. Can it be the two are not compatable?
Did you use a sealer? It might help your problem a little bit if its contamination.(and cheap insurance) You might want to try to spray it on a cooler night or get a higher temp reducer and remember dont mix brands when it comes to paint/reducer, I dont care what anyone says it CAN lead to problems down the road.
