ALL of that - if you don't know - WHAT IS IT?

But you know what - doing that shape and finding it was so simple to do was encouraging.

A lot of metal forming seems as mysterious as sculpture, but it really isn't

All you need is a shape to go to, to "MATCH"

~OKAY~

THIS PICTURE, is the no kidding "PAPER BAG" model

It is the shape being trimmed out.

It becomes a template to mark a sheet metal version, which can be bent and drilled

Well - I BATTED THAT SUCKER!

And it went ~CRACK~ all down a tab I was forming...

*It was heat treated aluminum sheet. Sure as hell, I should have annealed it. But with what torch?

All is not lost, I have gained a sheet of mild steel through a buddy

*what this refers to is the tendency of aluminum that is heat treated to crack before bending. "ANNEALING" is a process of reversing the heat treatment, by heating the metal and letting it cool slowly. HEAT TREATED metals are quenched, to form a hard outer layer of condensed metal
Repeatedly quenched metals can become hardened all the way through

(IE: They won't bend)

The quality of "MALLEABILITY" has been traded for strength

This is why a stainless steel knife is so hard to sharpen. It holds an edge, but is a hassle to put it on...

Have you never gotten fed up with a project, and just had to walk away for a time? That's what happened - and I knew it might.

But I'm still following it all the way through to a finished ride.

~I just had to "RECHARGE" by leaving it alone for a while.

THE BOX is nearly done.

I got upset with myself today and went out to go at it JUST TO GET PAST THAT STICKING POINT!!!

The results are now being reinforced using composite techniques so that I never have to take it out again

Pictures will be soon - this is anticipated as the very last "HARD SPOT" in the entire project.

As I said already, if I can get past actually LANDING the mill in its cradle - everything else is gonna be just plain smooth sailing!

Stand by for more, coming hard on the heals of THIS post

Yeah, it took me longer than it should. But I'd rather be slow than stupid any day

Awright - HERE WE GO!

In order:

In the first place - a paper grocery sack was recycled in the interest of furthering the honorable Japanese art of 'Paper Folding'

This is the overall rough and unpainted look

Details of the inside - gaps have to be filled, but WHOOPEE DING!

This shows the available airflow channel - which, considering it only feeds a four inch by eight inch hole in the firewall should ought to be more than plenty...
(You can plainly see the self-tapping screws that I used (with washers under the heads) to fix the metal to the plastic STRONG!

I can pretty it up later!

~I shoulda been a Blacksmith, and I bet I was in a previous incarnation

I love to work tin...

"We fixin' to make a whole mess of noise - and soon. It's a southern thang..."

Plain honest steel and craftsmanship

I'm sitting here now listening to Duane Allman complain about a whippin' post -

I can understand that, all of this has been a long time coming.

~Wolfie

*I'm waiting for the first mess of epoxy to set

~I just might cook up some chesodillas while I have to wait...

How dare you insult me like that! A professional is just some poor dumb shmoe who (by definition) is paid to do what they do. It don't say anywhere in that that they worth a DAMN

I like to think I'm better than that (I've seen godawful crap come from the hands of day-laborers, this is MINE!)

Here's an update for Y'all:

TOMORROW THE ENGINE WILL LAND IN THERE EVEN IF I HAVE TO GET BLOODY DOING IT!

But right now I'm way too ate up. I had to swap the whole works because I used a cover from a V6 truck to make that - and the 4Cylinder trucks have a completely different housing.
Oh well - Twelve volts is twelve volts. Everthang else being constant, it just don't make a frick.

The only good news was that the firewall studs are the same no matter what.

I also found one whole entire MULCH PILE was collected inside both of them - between the fan and the condenser.

NOW I have to wonder how all of those leaves and crap could get inside there and in the worst place of all! Right where it can plug up the A/C condenser solid...
Seems to me a filter may be required...

Reckon I'll be hollerin' at Rick Torres and Co. very soon now (AUTOSHEPHERD - one of our FTE sponsors)

~They've been real good to me

The dipsticks for the tranny and engine both are going to have to be custom (Flexible)...
I cain't fire it up until they've been attended to!

*It's also high time to think about driveshaft combinations

I doubt that - unless I build a truck that runs on pure alky (which is a renewable resource)

Now THAT calls for a blower - and I have always thought a 351 M series is stout enough to do that!

Oddly enough, amongst my spare engines I DO have one of them...

I have a hard time NOT thumbing through the Weiand catalogs

Umm...

I also noticed AUTOSHEPHERD is listed as a former sponsor, I'm sort of concerned about that.
