You should be able to make that patch, I'd clean off the paint to see where you have good metal. If you don't have access to a metal brake you can clamp your sheet metal to a bench with a piece of hardwood or piece of angle iron to make the bends you need. For the rounded bend use a pice of pipe or route the edge on the other side of your hardwood plank to the radius and form it with a hammer. Bondo covers a multitude of sins,lol. Someone might be willing to cut the piece for you from a parts truck but that patch could be made fairly easy. Seeing as you are working in this area you could also install a third brake light if you are deciding to go non-stock.

Unless you know what you are looking for most people don't even notice the BBW...you know that something is different, you just can't figure out what. These changes are what I like the best...the in your face mods sometimes take away from the overall appearance of the truck.
