4x4 controlls

i just got a 09 f350 XLT 4x4, v8, auto, it has both a shift on the fly dail on the dash and a 4x4 shifter on the floor

The hubs have lock or free as options.

The owners manual reads like you should have either ESOTF or a manual shifter.

What do I have to do to use in the 4x4 mode?

Very confused!!!!!!!!!

You have a truck that someone has modified. How, we can only guess.

My best guess is that they converted it to manual shift. Crawl under the truck and follow the linkage from the shifter and see where it goes. Probably to the transfer case. If this is the case, it's manual shift and the dash switch won't do anything.

Because of the hubs you have, my guess is that someone replaced a broken dash panel, and the switch is just filling an empty hole.

just check out the ESOTF dial, does nothing
floor shifter controlls 4x4

Just change out the dash bezel for one from a 2WD truck, one without the cutout for the ESOF switch and no problems. The floor shifter is better anyway.
